Marine Fisheries

Marine fisheries include the fish biology and accompanying activities. The tasks on the basis of the Marine Fishing Act are carried out as a public service. Moreover, the Institute also carries out the tasks obtained as a result of tenders or in the framework of international cooperation.

Operating in the field of marine biology includes the research regarding fishing and other sea/marine organisms. In doing so, the data, which is independent and dependent on the fishery, is collected, archived, and processed.  Obtaining the data in this way provides the basis for understanding the biology and ecology of marine organisms, the functioning of the fishing tools, and the impact of fishing on the marine ecosystem.

Accompanying activities are intended mainly as support to the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Food. Expert work is diverse and includes:

  • preparation of opinions,
  • cooperation in the preparation of legislation, and
  • counseling.
