The regulations in the Common Fisheries Policy require the collection of data on fishing and the landing of fishery products from the EU Member States. In Slovenia, captains of all fishing vessels are obliged to keep logbooks, as defined by the Commission Regulation (EC) no. 2807/83. In 2004 the Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia (FRIS) began the preparations for introducing the collection of fishing data. Therefore, we translated forms of two types of logbooks and prepared the instructions for filling out the forms. At the same time we began to develop a database for inputting, archiving, controlling, and processing of data from the logbooks. The internet application was in use at the Institute until 2006, when the data was taken over by the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Food and included them in their information system InfoRib.
