Biological sampling is fishery dependent collection of bilological data on fish and other marine organisms.
Sampling is performed by the observers on fishing
vessels or at the landing places of fishery products.
The
Institute uses standardized sampling methods, processing of biological material
and storing and processing data.

Main purpose of sampling is collection and evaluation
of data on organisms which are being caught by fishermen. Organisms belong here
that are the target species of the fishing, as well as the organisms caught by
coincidence (by-catch species). The goal of individual samplings are specified in detail further
on.
