Fish Farm Obrh (Vrhnika pri Ložu)

Fish Farm Obrh was built for at the stream of Obrh in 1935, for the production of Brown trout roe. In those times, they also delayed the fishing of crayfish and depleted young pike in Lake Cerknica.

Today, the fish farm is our largest breeding facility for home-grown salmonidae fish species.

Species

In fishery Obrh we breed the following fish species:

  • Huchen - is the largest salmonid of Danube river basin. Roe are obtained form free-range breeds from the rivers Kolpa, Sora, and Sava Bohinjka. Further breeding takes place in the fishery, where we breed from the roe one, two or three year huchen. The latter increase the weight up to 1kg and the size up to 50 cm and more.
  • Grayling - roe are obtained from free-range breeds in the stream Obrh, Unica, Sava Bohinjka and lake Črnava. Further breeding takes place in fishery until one, two or more year Graylings....
  • Brown Trout - roe are obtained from own breeding school and are breed in the fish farm to the offspring or to the one or two year juveniles. Part of the offspring is inserted in breeding streams, where the breeding of juveniles in nature takes place.
